Grieg/Tchaikovsky/Suk

A pleasantly straightforward approach to these Classically-inspired (if Romantically populist) string serenades, with an admirable lightness in the quicker passages. However, there is less sureness of tone in the slower movements, with some rather treacly playing, producing a glutinous atmosphere. The Swiss CO gives a breezy account of Grieg’s Holberg Suite.
