If the purpose of a recital disc is to display the prowess of the soloist, then this is a triumph. Pepe Romero convinces in all he plays, from the flamenco-based pieces by his father Celedonio, to Fernando Sor’s more substantial Variations. Both the bravura and the lyrical items, including Albéniz’s Suite española are superbly performed. The sound is very natural, although the recorded level is high. It is also a great pity that the booklet includes no information about the music. Terry Barfoot
