Handel: Water Music; Organ Concerto in D minor; Organ Concerto in F (Cuckoo and the Nightingale)

Authentic performance was still vaguely taboo when Harnoncourt’s grandiloquent yet scholarly account of the Water Music originally appeared in 1978. Now reissued, it’s a welcome addition to an oversubscribed and multifaceted field, still maintaining its ground in the face of most competition. As a bonus, Herbert Tachezi plays two of Handel’s most familiar organ concertos. Throughgoing and convincingly authoritative readings; sound quality is variable, yet entirely adequate.
