Ireland: A London Overture; These Things Shall Be; Greater Love Hath No Man; Vexilla regis

Ireland’s These Things Shall Be, an idealistic view of a Utopian world, contains some of the loveliest and most deeply moving writing in all British music. Terfel is splendidly authoritative, though not quite as affecting as John Carol Case under Boult (on Lyrita, sadly deleted). However, together with the witty and evocative London Overture, the stirring Epic March and the beautiful and majestic Greater Love Hath No Man, Hickox makes this an irresistible reissue. Ian Lace
