Mahler: Symphony No. 7

Although an improvement on Solti’s Mahler 6 (previous review), this still falls far short of the best accounts on disc. The Chicago Symphony respond with greater subtlety, textures are better delineated and the work’s larger perspectives are brought into closer focus. But Solti’s intractability still gets the better of him, and the impression left is one-dimensional. Antony Bye
