Martinu: Symphony No. 6 (Fantaisies symphoniques); Kytice (A Bouquet of Flowers)

This is an important issue, featuring two of Martinu’s best and most characteristic works in idiomatic performances and good sound. The splendid symphony has long been available, but the cantata Kytice has been elusive, and only briefly available as an import. Kytice is a masterpiece, wide-ranging in expression and endlessly tuneful. The singing, playing and Ancerl’s conducting are all excellent. This should not be missed. Terry Barfoot
