Mendelssohn: Lieder ohne Worte

The problem with any complete recording of the Songs without Words is sustaining interest in the limited range of colours and genres Mendelssohn confines himself to. Rév’s playing wants a shade more differentiation, a freedom and flamboyance and risk-taking with tempi. But if Rév is careful she is also for the most part engaging and is complemented by an agreeably neutral recorded sound. Christopher Wood
