Mozart: Horn Concerto in D, K386b; Horn Concerto in E flat, K495; Horn Concerto in E flat, K447; Horn Concerto E flat, K417; Rondo, K371

It seems unimaginative, but inevitable, that all the Mozart horn concertos and associated fragments should end up on one disc. The results are predictably repetitive, for most of the music is in one key and, in the case of the last movement of each concerto, based around one melodic idea. This would be washing-up music, really, were it not for some beautifully judged performances – efficient and elegant with a fine sense of phrasing. Christopher Lambton
