Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 19 in F, K459; Piano Concerto No. 27 in B flat, K595; Piano Sonata in F, K280

The line between artful simplicity and artless tedium is surprisingly fine, but Haskil, an artist to her flawless fingertips, never crosses it. Connoisseurs of classy Mozart playing will doubtless already have these performances in one format or another. Others should lose no time in acquiring this very special reissue. The subtlety and grace of Haskil’s playing defy analysis and imitation alike, but it would be wrong to throw all the bouquets her way. Fricsay, too, excels, and DG’s remastering is exemplary.
