In this reissue of two of Reiner’s most acclaimed recordings, the Chicago SO gives a dazzling performance of Ravel’s orchestration of Mussorgsky’s Pictures, with fabulous brass playing in the ‘Catacombs’ and the ‘Great Gate of Kiev’. There is also plenty of sparkle in the two Respighi works and the vividly evocative playing leaves a lasting impression.
