Ravel: String Quartet; Violin Sonata; Piano Trio

As near an ideal coupling of Ravel’s three great chamber works as one could imagine. The Quartetto Italiano marries passion and rhythmic verve with marvellously fluid phrasing in the String Quartet, while Grumiaux is the epitome of elegance and refinement in the Sonata. The great Piano Trio finds the Beaux Arts in less indulgent mood than in their later digital recording, but the performance is equally convincing.
