This generous collection is a most welcome reissue from the late Seventies. Norman is ravishing in the Song of the Wood-dove. The suppleness of Minton’s Sprechstimme, particularly its rhythms, and the eloquence of the instrumentalists, make this Pierrot a performance to treasure. The wonderful Erwartung is all too rarely recorded; after a calm start, Martin rides the tremendous climaxes in a finely-paced account, although she is recorded a little too prominently.
