Schubert: Piano Trio, D929; Duo for Violin and Piano, D574; Nocturne, D897

The virtuosity of these three performers produces an astonishing synthesis and unity of purpose. The great E flat Trio, D929, is splendidly played and, in the Nocturne, this French trio achieves a beautifully controlled serenity. The B flat sonata movement, D28, of the original issue has been replaced here by the A major Duo, D574, in a performance full of Schubertian feeling and affecting delicacy. The recording is bright and fresh. Nicholas Rast
