Schumann: Piano Trios, Opp. 63, 80 & 110; Piano Quartet; Piano Quintet

Although music historians may have judged Schumann’s Piano Quintet superior to the later Piano Trios, such a view cuts no ice with the Beaux Arts Trio, who deliver highly charged and committed accounts of all three works. The Piano Quartet and Quintet are just as impressive, with the performers clearly relishing the opportunity of making music in an enlarged ensemble. All in all, this is an extremely desirable compilation.
