Michael Collins more than justifies the series title with his amazingly fluent renditions of the Lovreglio and Messager pieces. Other highlights inthis generous collection of important clarinet repertoire include an extremely spirited account of Weber’s Grand duo concertant and an especially fine performance of Poulenc’s lovely Sonata. The latter features some wonderfully controlled pianissimo playing and a beautifully expressive slow movement. With equally outstanding accompaniments from Kathryn Stott, this is a highly recommended recording. Tim Payne
