Schumann/Grieg: Piano Concertos

Painstakingly prepared, beautifully articulated – almost too much so in Grieg’s outer movements – and with nevera note ill-timed. Temirkanov follows suit with warm, conscientious accompaniments and the engineering is beyond reproach. What’s missing? Spontaneity. Personally, I’d rather stick with the more imaginative Geza Anda (DG), or (on two EMI Références CDs) Dinu Lipatti, who supplements finesse with the most astonishing degree of perception.
