Schumann/Schubert/Brahms

In October EMI issued a one-disc Baker compilation of German, French and English songs, and we must still live in hope that EMI will eventually release more of her recordings from the late Sixties and Seventies which it owns exclusively. This Saga reissue of Schumann, Schubert and Brahms was Baker’s first lieder recital made in 1965. Accompanied by Martin Isepp, this is vintage JB, beautifully rich in sound and thoughtfully paced. This is definitely one to catch. Elise McDougall
