Schubert: An 1815 Schubertiad - 2 (Hyperion Schubert Edition, Vol. 22)

This is something of a mixed bag of songs from Schubert’s bumper year of 1815, but there are enough gems to make this an enjoyable disc. Performances are in keeping with the high standards of the series – perhaps even a little too good at times, with the ‘drinking songs’ sounding distinctly sober! In fact, spontaneity is the one key ingredient of a Schubertiad to be slightly lacking here. Christopher Dingle
