Jerome Moross was one of many American film composers who emerged from a classical background – in his case, the Juilliard. He was a childhood friend of the great Bernard Herrmann, and played chamber music with him; when his career as a film composer tailed off, he reverted to chamber music. The Valley of Gwangi includes a selection of his best film music, which exudes a confident American spirit.
