Gil and Milton

Classic reissues and a few surprises this time. The unexpected begins with a new release, the modestly titled GIL AND MILTON. Never mind the occasional string sections or girls’ choirs: essentially this is a persuasive, quiet selection of great tunes, delivered straight and beautifully arranged. Most of the best songs are Gilberto’s or Nascimento’s.

Then again, after the strings have cloyed they come up with a wonderfully relaxed reggae arrangement of George Harrison’s ‘Something’. No world-music fashion or contrivance here, just top-quality music-making.
