Natural

At the opposite end of the Afro-Latin spectrum, CELSO FONSECA makes his international solo debut by gently extending the bossa nova tradition, mostly with his own songs.

The mellow, close-miked voice and suave harmonic movement are supported by spare acoustic guitar and piano and an easy-paced rhythmic impetus with touches of programming.

Sensitively delivered, the vocal balance is too whisper-in-your-ear for my taste but the album gets its lift from a couple of driving and exploratory instrumentals and introductions.
