Tippett: Fantasia concertante on a Theme of Corelli; Concerto for Double String Orchestra; Songs for Dov

An octogenarian’s interpretation of his own music. What energy Tippett brings to the outer movements of the Concerto with their jazz inflections and complex cross-rhythms; and he makes his lovely slow-movement melody so appealing. Nigel Robson rises to the tricky, elastic vocal lines of the intensely colourful Songs for Dov with great dexterity and aplomb. Dov fuses blues with a whole range of styles and employs a wide array of exotic percussion – and Tippett’s Pegasus is especially vivid. Ian Lace
