Akata Meso

In a good month for guitars, the must-hear is D'CARY. He sings, too, in a soft-voiced high range, but it's the quick acoustic lines cutting across the floated vocal melodies that grab the ear. D'Gary shares the singing with his woman colleague Rataza, and apart from sparing percussion support that's the basic sound, fleet and quiet and full of fantasy.

Here again there's a guest, but Nantha Kumar's tabla-playing is proper collaboration, for once absorbing the Malagasy style as well as soloing his own way. For two of their numbers the guitar sound goes electric while the rhythmic interaction stays intricate and subtle.
