Hussain also appears on a disc with the new generation of a sarod dynasty. Amaan Ali Bangash, recorded at his first public solo recital in Mumbai/ Bombay last year, is the son of Amjad Ali Khan, and he made his debut at the same age: 18. Too soon? Maybe for repeated listening, but he’s accomplished and has a personality of his own.
The exploration of the raga is finely detailed, short-winded at first, expanding after ten minutes. He moves up-tempo rather abruptly, but doesn’t run out of ideas in his eagerness. When the tabla joins him, he catches a steady fire and some typically florid percussion episodes keep the temperature high.
