Saba, with her Ethiopian-Somali mother and Italian father, had to leave Mogadishu for Italy when she was five. She has turned to the experience of exile and loss. Her urgent, vibrant vocals occupy an original middle ground between traditional Africa and R ‘n’ B. While tracks vary in complexity and sometimes succumb to over-production, the best accommodate their various elements in layers, and they all feature committed, intense singing.
