Shruti Sadolikar

Shruti Sadolikar

Navras’s ‘Women through the Ages’ series, recorded live in London as usual with this label, gets off to a strong start with Shruti Sadolikar’s recital in the khyal and thumri song forms. There’s a searing, face-on quality from the outset.

Partly the uneasy and searching effect is in the nature of the raga (Marwa), partly it’s that the vocal colour is expertly matched. The second raga is calmer, but it still has a spirited performance. Even the lighter final number is forthright and sparky.
