Welcome to your daily guide to the action at the 2025 BBC Proms. And today (Saturday 20 July), you've got a treat in store.
Today at the Proms: Samara Joy
Samara Joy, an acclaimed jazz vocalist and five-time Grammy winner, makes her Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall tonight with The Great American Songbook and Beyond, accompanied by her Octet and the BBC Concert Orchestra under conductor Miho Hazama. At just 25, Samara's soulful reinterpretations of classics from Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Oscar Peterson have earned her comparisons to the greats and established her as “a legend in the making”.

Her performance promises to be an electrifying fusion of youthful energy and timeless elegance. She not only honours jazz traditions with reverence but also reinvents them, layering fresh arrangements over beloved standards. With her velvet-toned voice and charismatic stage presence, Samara Joy is bringing a new vibrancy to the Proms this summer—perfectly bridging the gap between jazz history and its future.
